Already renowned for its sporty performance, the Porsche Cayenne’s off-road credentials were tested to their limits at a drive event organised by Porsche Saudi Arabia. Taking place at the King Abdullah Economic City off-road track, the experience featured a series of scenarios that enabled participants to utilise a range of intelligent driver assistance systems developed by the Stuttgart based manufacturer, to tackle difficult terrains.
Following a short road drive which demonstrated the sporty performance, agility and uncompromised everyday comfort that the Cayenne model range offers, participants were taken off-road and faced a number of challenges including hill descents and loose gravel surfaces.
Speaking at the event, Michael Mueller, Executive Director, Porsche Saudi Arabia, said: “The on-road and track dominance of Porsche models is well known. With this special event, our aim is to draw attention to the extended capabilities of the brand’s SUV model. The Cayenne spreads Porsche performance off-road and as expected delivers outstanding results. Although drivers may not always encounter tough terrain on their daily commute, we want to highlight a range of features and assistance systems that provide driveability and safety alongside the smooth performance our enthusiasts have come to expect of a Porsche.”
During the event, participants were given opportunities to experience the range of Porsche technology specifically designed to handle varied topography. With the course featuring simulated hill descents, drivers were able to activate the Porsche Hill Control (PHC) which keeps the speed of the car constant on downhill gradients, limiting it between 3 to 30 km/h by braking on all four wheels, whilst the Antilock Brake System (ABS) remains active to prevent locking.
Meanwhile, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV) in combination with the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) systems provided improved traction in the Cayenne during drives through low grip segments of the course. Thanks to the rear-axle differential lock, the PTV Plus system makes a positive impact by reducing rear wheel spin through targeted locking and braking interventions.
Available in a range of derivatives including Turbo and GTS versions, the Porsche Cayenne represents the benchmark for four-door SUVs in the luxury segment, whilst offering a lot of fun and safety when taken off-road as well.
