Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, announced the launch of its Cultural Tour Guide programme in partnership with Yas Consulting and Training Company. The announcement follows success with the first group of 11 employees trained in the initiative, who were drawn from across the Authority’s numerous heritage sites including the recently unveiled Etihad Museum.
The first Cultural Tour Guide Programme was held 19th September-21st November 2016, with the aim of enhancing the performance and technical skills of Dubai Culture staff specialising in history, Islamic civilisation and tourism. The initiative forms part of the Authority’s broader efforts to support Emirati tourism and culture.
Fatima Ali Al Mohammed, Manager of Human Resources at Dubai Culture & Arts Authority said: “Dubai Culture priorities training its employees to an advanced level, all across the rich series of Emirati cultural fields. This programme provides skills and insights to ensure our cultural experts and tour guides are highly informed, and capable of providing advanced levels of service at cultural, archaeological and heritage sites across the Emirate. We are confident that this training programme will encourage capable young Emiratis to serve the dynamic UAE cultural sector, strengthening our national identity and inspiring residents, visitors and tourists.”
The Training programme also provides a career path for graduates of higher studies in History and Islamic Civilisation, with specialised training courses and workshops providing a practical link to theoretical knowledge gained from academic study. Furthermore, opportunity is provided for experts to share their passion for Emirati culture at sites all across Dubai, with tourists interested in learning more about the city’s landmarks.
