The Shoura Council approved on Wednesday the creation of a new medal named after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
The King Salman Medal will be awarded to distinguished people in the fields of national, Arab and Islamic history, librarianship, service to preserve manuscripts and historical documents.
It will also be awarded to distinguished people in the fields of information, culture, and the development of national tourism.
Those with outstanding initiatives in humanitarian, charitable and relief work will also be considered for the prestigious King Salman Medal.
The decision was taken by the Shoura Council in its 39th ordinary session chaired by its Chairman Dr. Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al-Asheikh.
The Shoura took the decision after hearing the viewpoints of the Culture, Information, Tourism and Antiquities Committee.
