The H Resort Beau Vallon Beach, Seychelles launches sustainable activities

The H Resort Beau Vallon Beach, an intimate, tropical island resort in Seychelles, launches a series of environmental initiatives that enable guests to experience nature while enjoying valuable time together.

Recognised as Seychelles’ Leading Green Resort in 2018 and 2019, the conservation and education programmes in place allow guests to experience luxurious hospitality while contributing to environmental protection and conservation.

“We understand sustainability as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations. Guests will enjoy several eco-friendly activities offered by the resort. Kids can attend the coral growing workshop and help plant baby corals to restore the coral reefs; be a wetland ranger for the day and discover the unique species of plants and trees that surround the resort; sign up for the creepy-crawly lab and find out about the conservation efforts dedicated to animals; and experience jewellery making out of the treasures from the beach.

The resort’s eco-project is based on five interconnected pillars, namely: (1) reduce, reuse, recycle; (2) wildlife – flora and fauna; (3) water consumption; (4) energy conservation; and (5) local care and fair trade.

A pioneer in sustainable practices and activities, the team at the resort adheres to a strict recycling programme and ensures that recycled products are disposed of appropriately whenever possible, within the local capabilities.  The H Resort Beau Vallon Beach was one of the first resorts to begin the #RefuseTheStraw campaign, asking guests to have their drinks without straws or using edible ones.

The resort is the only property in Seychelles to have a food composter, through which all food waste is recycled and utilised as a fertiliser in the landscaping of the property.

Blessed with a tropical climate with rains almost a common occurrence, the H Resort Beau Vallon Beach made all its structures rainwater harvesting compatible to contribute to the water table and natural lagoon of the property. There is an established osmosis plant which re-uses the lagoon water effectively in the public areas and in the staff accommodation.

The property encourages a “switch off policy” among the staff and guests and is working towards being a 100% LED illuminated property this year, aiming to optimise resources and to preserve energy wasting.

Spa treatment products are sourced locally and fresh seafood and a selection of the catch of the day are bought from the island’s fishermen. The resort also maintains its own herbs, fruits and vegetable garden.
