What a day to remember! Winter break for schools has just started yet a bunch of students from around Dubai started it with purpose and meaning. As most have gone to see their families back home and spend the holidays with them, the said students decided to linger for a little bit more to take part in an event called The Pride of Christmas: A Children’s Fundraiser benefiting Al Jalila Foundation at The Terrace, Media Rotana Hotel.
Sherif Madkour, General Manager at Media Rotana Dubai commented, “We at Media Rotana Dubai consider our corporate social responsibility as an integral and crucial part. We are always delighted with the blessings of putting true smiles on the faces of all the kids who joined”.
It was a day that started with a parade of children and members of UAE Garrison of the 501st Legion at the Media Rotana Hotel Lobby. The children sang a Christmas carol to spread the festive cheer to the hotel guests and staff. It followed a photo-op at The Terrace where our Christmas market and fundraiser was set-up. We had support from I Am Nature, The Calliemperatrice, Elbirg, Art Kreators, Color Nail Beauty Lounge, and The Pink Ribbon Crafters who made our market space looking really festive.
An African savannah themed stage with a massive backdrop set the tone and ambiance of our animal-themed fundraiser. The entertainment program that took place there was an absolute delight to everyone. A collective of students who called themselves the Pride Rock Choir sang Christmas songs and some songs from the movie Lion King - it was such pleasure watching their cute little faces and listening to their singing. The stage was also graced by talented children and adults who showcased their singing and instrument-playing abilities.
The Funny Girl and the lady behind the UAE’s No.1 comedy school, Dubomedy, Mina Liccione brought her A-Game as the Master of Ceremony of the event. The event was also made possible by our lovely volunteers, and partners from RSVP International, Organic Foods & Cafe, Clover Medical Center, and Toys ‘R Us Middle East who supported us with toy giveaways and Toys ‘R Us mascots that truly added to the event entertainment.
Children helped raise funds through sales of delicious donuts and muffins to everyone at The Terrace. They were very happy selling those festive treats for a good cause while dressed in Chef uniforms with the help of Chef Pasquale of Media Rotana. It was really such a treat! This activity gave them the opportunity to interact with guests and event supporters to explain why they were there and what the event was all about. It was indeed about caring about other people especially the children like them. As little as they are, and as little as what they can do, for now, they stood up and stood beside those who need help the most. They reckon that the little things they can do for now can go a long way.
