Abu Dhabi University prepares to safely reopen laboratories and studio classes

In the wake of COVID-19, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has focused its efforts in recent months to convert its programs to distance learning using the range of educational technologies available at the university. Ever since, the university has been closely monitoring its operating environment and outlining plans to return to normal operations, while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students and the wider ADU community. 

Following the commencement of the 2020-2021 academic year with a hybrid education model in September, ADU has now announced that it is set and fully prepared for its laboratories and studio classes’ safe return to campus starting October. In addition, students will be able to access the university’s library resources on-campus and online. The decision has been made in line with strict protocols and social distancing measures outlined by the government. Students who wish to gain access to these facilities are required to have a negative PCR COVID-19 test conducted within 14 days and recorded on the Al Hosn App.

The College of Engineering lab and studio classes will reopen in the Abu Dhabi campus on the first week of October, and on the first week of November in Al Ain campus. The College of Arts and Science lab and studio classes will also start operating again from the first week of November in both the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses.

To ensure the highest level of health and safety, ADU have revised its assessment model; where mid-term and final exams will now be conducted remotely during the fall semester.

Following the adaptation of distance learning, ADU’ College of Engineering had launched a number of technologies, tools and strategies to enhance distance learning and ensure that the remote curriculum incorporates the practical sections of teaching engineering courses. This was implemented for engineering programs with courses that rely heavily on mathematics and applied sciences, in addition to focusing on promoting the acquisition of practical skills.
