Officials of American University of Sharjah (AUS) are conducting a week-long ‘roadshow’ in Abu Dhabi, talking to students, parents and educators about the benefits of an AUS education. A highlight of the roadshow will be the participation of AUS at Najah Abu Dhabi, 2017, the UAE’s leading higher education event which opened by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan Minister of Tolerance at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center yesterday and will last for three days.
A large percentage of the AUS student body is made up of students from the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, who see entry to the university as an opportunity to gain an American-style university education without having to travel abroad. The university’s accredited and internationally recognized programs are on-par with those offered by some of the most highly respected higher education institutions in the United States, providing excellent opportunities for students from the UAE in either work or further study.
Prospective AUS students and their parents are invited to talk with representatives of the university to learn details about the university’s programs, and how to apply. University officials will be available to meet students and parents in the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana, daily from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 29 through Wednesday, November 1, 2017. AUS will also host a public presentation event for students interested in joining AUS and parents. The event will be held in the same hotel on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. AUS officials will also be visiting schools in the capital.
The public presentation and extra sessions in Abu Dhabi are intended to give prospective students a detailed insight into the programs offered by the university’s School of Business Administration and three Colleges – College of Architecture, Art and Design; College of Arts and Science; and College of Engineering. Students are also encouraged to learn more about the extra-curricular opportunities offered by AUS, which boasts a number of cultural, ethnic and interest clubs, along with successful men’s and women’s sporting teams. The university is also well known for its diversity, with Times Higher Education (THE) ranking it as the number one university in the world with the highest percentage of international students.
Speaking on the university’s academic programs and multinational campus environment, AUS Chancellor Dr. Björn Kjerfve said;
“We are always happy to welcome a large contingent of new students from Abu Dhabi. AUS is well known in Abu Dhabi for its outstanding academic performance, and for delivering an American-style, liberal arts university education in the Gulf. Students can enjoy the benefits of such an education, both now and in the future, without having to leave the Emirates, and remaining only a few hours’ drive from their parents – key reasons why we see so many students from Abu Dhabi seeking places at AUS each semester”.
AUS Executive Director of Enrollment Management Ali Shuhaimy said;
“Our educational environment challenges and encourages students to develop not only skills and knowledge fundamental to their areas of study, but also other skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century – such as leadership and communication skills. While in Abu Dhabi, we hope to advise prospective students and their parents of the opportunities available to them at AUS.”
AUS student, Loay El-Mohtar, who came from Abu Dhabi and is studying Mechanical Engineering at the university said;
"The excellence of both its staff and students over its 20-year history have led to it becoming widely recognized as one of the best universities in the Middle East and consistently delivering education of an international standard. When i graduate from AUS I will return to Abu Dhabi and I feel the university prepared me to face the real world. I hope that high school students in Abu Dhabi consider pursuing their higher education at AUS so that they, too, can enjoy the same opportunities.”
