The Arab Women’s Sport Tournament (AWST) 2018 has announced that it has launched its new website, with features and operations transforming all its services and offerings into a digitally-integrated framework.
The updated tool has been released in time to facilitate entries for next year’s event in Sharjah, and position AWST as the first women’s sporting event in the Arab world to go ‘green’, operating on a ‘paperless’ basis converting all of its operations to become environmentally-friendly.
The new version of www.awst.ae is in keeping with the organisation’s dedication to furthering ‘digital transformation,’ implementing a sustainable system of action and updating its interface and content in conformity, in-line with Sharjah’s leading eco-friendly and digital integration initiatives.
The updated version of the AWST site features a user-friendly and intuitive registration system for athletes and clubs who wish to compete in the forthcoming tournament, which takes place in February 2018. The registration process has been made much more simplified for competition registrants to use and for the Supreme Organising Committee responsible for overseeing the tournament to access.
Once the registration process is successfully completed through the new site, the user receives a reference number to follow up on their request. The website also sends notifications to registration administrators to follow up on the submission and approve it if complete or to ask for the missing information if incomplete.
The website allows visitors to find the results of any competition, match or round live, saving them the time and effort of searching for results on other websites that are dedicated solely to sports. Its new features include the designing of participants’ user IDs directly through the website, with the result that once the participant provides their information they are able to receive their ID immediately.
HE Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Deputy Head of AWST’s Supreme Organising Committee (SOC), and Head of its Executive Committee said: “Launching our new website aligns with our dedication to achieving excellence in all fields. The website furthers our efforts towards integrated digital transformation in line with Sharjah’s vision.”
“AWST will be the first environment-friendly sporting event in the Arab world and will prioritise the conservation of resources. We have replaced paper registration forms with ones that are completed and submitted through the website. Other required documents can be uploaded as necessary and archived electronically. They can be easily accessed without the need to print them out, thereby saving paper, ink and power,” she added.
“The website was designed to accommodate any further developments easily without the need for radical changes to its structure or design. A smart application will be launched at a later date to provide the same services as the website, with a simpler interface for smart phones,” she noted.
The fourth edition of AWST will run from February 2-12, 2018, under the auspices of the Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sport Foundation (SWSF). It is expected to see a wide participation of sport clubs from across the Arab world.
Last April, AWST’s SOC announced that the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees approved SWSF to be the official organising entity of AWST – with next year’s event the fourth edition of the annual tournament.
SWSF was established under an Emiri decree in November 2016 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council Ruler of Sharjah. It is chaired by his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, who is aided by an advisory committee comprising expert members in this field. SWSF enjoys the administrative and financial independence necessary to pursue its objectives.
