Audi Middle East to a race they could not refuse. As a first and exclusive for the Middle East region, Audi Middle East has launched a once in a lifetime opportunity. With their ‘Audi Challenges Arabia’ initiative they asked fans to nominate an Audi challenge that would become a reality for them. The first challenge took place during August at the Dubai Autodrome with an Audi R8 adrenaline challenge. Now, Neil De Almeida (29) from Dubai, has challenged Audi to race against one of the fastest elevators in the world, the elevator of Burj Khalifa.
More than 4,000 challenges have been submitted since the start of the Audi Challenges Arabia campaign. The second successful challenge to be made into reality, was one that really got Audi’s pulse racing. Musa Khalfan Yasin, the fastest sprinter in the UAE, and one of Audi’s best racing drivers, Edoardo Mortara, were the contenders for the duel.
Musa’s vehicle of choice was one of the fastest elevators in the world, engineered within the tallest structure ever known: Burj Khalifa with a height of 828 meters. As the elevator rises to the top, Edoardo Mortara had to depend on the 560 hp strong Audi RS 7 to conquer Jebel Hafeet – one of the tallest mountains in the region with 1,249 meters.
The story of the challenge and the winner can be seen on the Audi Middle East YouTube site: https://youtu.be/h-GugtIw9UA.
Neil De Almeida who submitted the challenge simply could not believe it actually happened: “One day I was just chatting to a friend on Facebook, and I saw this advert pop up of Audi challenging people to give them crazy ideas. I sent one that I thought would actually be cool to see happen in real life, not expecting anything to come of it. You know how these things are, nothing ever happens. So you can imagine my surprise when I got the call from Audi Middle East, that they not only liked the idea, but that they were going to put it into production as well. I can’t wait to see the finished product, it’s just too awesome for words.”
