Bait Al Oud Teachers to play a public concert at Manarat Al Saadiyat

as part of Emirate-wide annual music programme

Bait Al Oud is starting a new season of concerts across the capital with a public performance this week by from Bait Al Oud’s teachers and instructors, celebrating musical heritage, as part of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority’s Music Programme.

The ‘Teachers Concert’ is being held at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island at 8pm on Thursday, 16th February with free entry to members of the public.

Bait Al Oud focuses on the history, theory, practice and performance of traditional Arabic music and instruments, in particular the playing of the qanoun and rebabah, and is renowned as a regional centre of musical expertise.

Among the musicians taking part in the concert is Emirati Faisal Al Sari, who has collaborated with many artists in the UAE and the wider Gulf. Among the most important works he has written is the operetta, The Story of a Country, for which he won numerous awards.

In 2008 he joined Bait Al Oud and three years later graduated with an honours degree on the oud and as a soloist teacher. He specialises in oud playing as well as composition and scientific research.

Joining him on stage will be Fathallah Ahmad, who is the Arabic singing instructor at Bait Al Oud, Bassam Abdel Sattar, a quanon instructor at the institution, Samer Abu Reslan, a solfège instructor, Fateen Kanaan and Mazen El-Bagir, Muhammad Dahhi and Sherine Tohamy. They will also be accompanied by a musical group throughout the performance.

Sara Ebrahim Alshakar, TCA Abu Dhabi, said: “We are pleased to bring together our Bait Al Oud teachers to launch our season of concerts for this year. Bait Al Oud is an essential resource for preserving the musical cultural heritage of Abu Dhabi and the UAE while helping to raise awareness of various Oriental instruments played throughout our history.

“We are delighted that the assembled experts from Bait Al Oud will launch the new season of performances.”

Upcoming months will witness a series of concerts presented by Bait Al Oud’s musical instructors in Abu Dhabi in a collaborative event with the Abu Dhabi Classics season. In addition, there will be performances by Bait Al Oud’s 2017 graduates scheduled through the entire year.

The institution’s best students will also participate in the ‘Abu Dhabi Oud Forum’, to be held in October 2017.
