Bateel International Announces its Long-Awaited Debut in Qatar With Six New Locations Confirmed

Having established itself as the brand of choice for gourmet dates and confectionary from London to Jakarta, Bateel International now brings its offerings to Qatar’s capital, Doha for the first time. Doha residents and tourists alike will finally be able to delight in gourmet delectable bites from Bateel’s boutiques and cafés!

Known for reinventing and elevating dates to a gourmet product, Bateel has grown to become an admired food brand, renowned globally for culinary excellence. Furthermore, with its well-established expansion into the cafés segment, Bateel has created a name for itself, offering an elevated casual dining concept by combining Mediterranean cuisine and the rich tradition of Arabian hospitality, promising an unforgettable gourmet experience.

With a series of openings taking place from this month across the first quarter of 2017, General Manager, Tina Memic, remarked “Bateel has been long awaited in Qatar and we are delighted to finally be able to bring the highest quality gourmet experiences and outstanding customer service to residents through our network of new locations across the city”.

Set to open six new cafés and boutiques in some of Doha’s most prestigious locations, Bateel is ready to introduce the capital to a new world of gourmet delights. A brand new boutique and café opened their doors to the much anticipated Mall of Qatar location earlier this month. These will be followed by another café set to open later this month at the iconic Doha Tower, also known as the Burj Doha.

2017 will see a period of continued growth in the country, with a further three openings; a café and boutique in Doha Festival City as well as a dual-purpose location in the Lagoona Mall, which will offer both a café and boutique under one roof.

2016 has been a year of expedited growth for the brand, with store and café openings across Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman. Dr. Ata Atmar, Managing Director Bateel International, commented on this occasion: “Bateel is Arabic for ‘a young offshoot of a date palm’ and like our namesake, our company has grown tremendously over the years.  2016 has been a stellar year for Bateel as we expanded into several new key markets across the GCC, as well as celebrating our 25th anniversary.”

Past

Founded in 1991, Dr. Ata shares, “At that time dates were just a standard commodity in supermarkets, and we essentially introduced and developed a new concept, which did not exist before.” Bateel had a strong vision to market the dates like premium Swiss chocolates.  Introducing innovations in the farming and processing techniques in the Bateel farms in Al Ghat, in the historic green valleys of the Tuwayq Mountains, they elevated the date quality tremendously, turning an agricultural product into a luxury food item.

The first Bateel boutique opened in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, and shortly after they expanded the product offering to include premium quality chocolates, pastries, and fine foods from around the world. Extending the Bateel experience evening further, the launch of Café Bateel introduced a new concept in casual dining in 2007 with the first café opening in Dubai.

Present

Today the brand operates both boutiques and cafés globally, last year saw the opening the first flagship store in The Walk at JBR. The expansive venue is the first in the world to bring three Bateel elements together under one roof, combining the boutique, bakery and café to offer guests an exceptional, one of a kind gourmet experience.

All Bateel dates are still sourced from their own farms in Al Ghat which are operated solely by and for Bateel. The team have made a significant investment in state-of-the-art cleaning and storage technology and strictly adhere to a policy of organic farming practices, using cultivation techniques that are as close to nature as possible and without the use of chemicals.
