The number of students in Saudi Arabia attending international schools continues to grow, according to Cambridge Assessment International Education, indicating a continued popularity and demand for Cambridge qualifications.
Overall, Cambridge received around 45,000 exam papers from 110 schools across Saudi Arabia last year.
Expansion in the international schools market in Saudi Arabia is in direct response to the increased demand for high quality education in the region and around the world, and new schools are making high-quality education more accessible to all.
Waseem Al-Hanbali, Regional Director of Cambridge Assessment International Education said: “Saudi decision makers are more determined to provide high standards of education in line with the Vision 2030 announced for Saudi Arabia that plans to prepare and empower children to be leaders of tomorrow.”
Cambridge spoke to schools about the importance of international education and the increasing demand among families and parents to prepare learners for the future. Parents believe that the option of an international education ensures learners are receiving quality education.
Sara Zaini, whose son attends the Nun Academy, said: “There are no guarantees in life based on the schooling decisions we make for our children, yet I believe placing my son in an international school will help him develop the required skills to continue his education and excel in any field of his choice. It is reassuring to know he is learning based on international standards that are proven to be successful.”
Muhammad Muqaddam, CEO of Waad Academy in Jeddah said: “Many parents are choosing Waad Academy because they believe that our curriculum based on the Cambridge programmes will help their children obtain a strong academic base and develop transferable skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, research, communication and collaboration. To them, these skills are crucial for their children to be successful at school, at university and in their future careers.”
According to recent reports, interest among Saudi students in foreign education has increased by 30 per cent. This is especially after they have been allowed to join international schools.
Earlier this year, Cambridge awarded 204 outstanding learners from schools across Saudi Arabia, with 22 learners topping at a global level in various subjects, including Mathematics, English Language and Business Studies.
