Gulf Medical University recently had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Paolo Rotelli, President of San Donato Group and Mr. Kamel Ghribi, Chairman of GK Investment Holding Group, who were at the university to meet the academic leadership. The meeting involved signing a contract to deliver a Joint Certificate Course in Digital Dentistry and 3D Printing by the College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University and School of Dentistry, San Raffaele University, Milano.
Prof. Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of Gulf Medical University commented that training dentists on 3D printing is aligned with the UAE vision to be a global hub for 3D printing by 2030. “Such technology is expected to influence not only the medical field but it will also impact our lives. Therefore, it is important to incorporate its teaching in the medical curriculum and encourages students and faculty to conduct research in such direction,” he added.
Prof. Hesham Marei, the Dean of College of Dentistry stated that the new course prepares the dentists to meet the current market needs, as it involves training on how to apply 3D printing in the production of dentures, surgical placement of dental implants and planning for a smile design. “The course will serve the dentists and postgraduate students, which would be reflected on better patient care not only in the UAE, but also in the entire Gulf region,” he said.
