DeG Explores Latest Digital Security Innovations with TRA

Marking a new step in a series of efforts to consolidate the progress of Sharjah government’s cybersecurity and data integration, Sharjah Department of e-Government (DeG) recently held a meeting with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to identify areas of cooperation in the field of information security and data interchange coordination mechanisms. To officialise the newly formed partnership, the two parties put their signatures on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the DeG headquarters in Sharjah.

Attended by HE Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of DeG; HE Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of TRA, and other TRA and DeG members, avenues of strategic collaboration in digital security, mitigating cyber risks, as well as digital assistance response services in cybersecurity were identified.

The two institutions will also be taking up awareness projects with government sector entities, with a view to inform them of the fundamentals of cybersecurity and requisites for safe digital networks.

“Sharjah prides itself for having a digital infrastructure that delivers premium services and top tier security solutions to all its government entities. This new partnership with TRA is a bold step further to ensure we continue to provide our partners with the latest digital solutions, innovations and assistance, which will aid our goal of facilitating sustainable digital transformation and development in the emirate,” said Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi.

“We believe that public sector entities in Sharjah and the UAE will benefit immensely from our strategic partnership with the TRA, which will be a bridge between them and the latest, most secure digital technologies in the market, adopting which will elevate overall business realities in UAE,” Sheikh Khalid added.

For his part, Al Mansoori pointed out that signing this MoU is a significant step forward for the TRA, which has been working towards developing services at the federal level, bringing them closer to their goal of complete digital transformation in delivering services, and establishing an integrated network that will connect all receiving entities with a unified core database across the UAE.

“For years, the UAE has been undergoing a remarkable revolution in digital and technology. What this means for us is that we have had to keep up pace by stepping up efforts to ensure a performance that allows all government entities to be part of the new digital revolution. Once we achieve what we are aiming for, UAE’s residents of all nationalities will be empowered to conduct their administrative functions at the highest level of security,” said Al Mansoori.

The two sides discussed key digital services delivered by the TRA, which aims to establish an integrated and unified digital environment in the UAE. They also addressed annotations to developed digital projects that will cover the UAE’s health, education and services sectors, all of which require a high level of security and simplicity.

The DeG seeks to contribute to building a knowledge-based society through achieving excellence in digital and electronic transformation in the government sector, in addition to providing innovative electronic and digital services, employing skilled staff and world-class operating procedures and technological systems. The department continues its efforts to support the growth of the emirate’s economic, social and cultural affairs, and in turn, further the UAE’s goals of sustainable development.
