Dubai Culture is gold sponsor of ‘In Arabic’ initiative

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts, heritage, and literature, announced it will be the gold sponsor of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation's ‘In Arabic’ initiative.

The initiative launched in 2013 in conjunction with the celebration of Arabic Language Day, which was set by the United Nations on 18th December of every year with the aim to increase the use of Arabic through digital media and social networking channels.

The primaryobjective of the initiative is to contribute to the development of the intellectual and cultural role of the Arabic language, and amplifying Arabic content on websites and mobile applications that support the Arabic language. Another objective is to enable the Arabic language to regain its leading position as a universal language, promoting its spread through social media websites by urging the public to use Arabic vocabulary in their daily lives.

Saeed Al Naboudah, Acting Director General at Dubai Culture, said: "Through our sponsorship of this initiative, Dubai Culture contributes to raising awareness of the aesthetics of the Arabic language that links back to our heritage and Arabic history. We will assist those promoting this initiative and its objectives through the many events that we organise year-round in Dubai and beyond. Since the Arabic language represents a cornerstone of our cultural and national identity, aiding such initiatives helps us in fulfilling the objectives of Dubai Plan 2021 to enhance Dubai's position as a creative and sustainable global city for culture, arts, heritage, and literature.”

Dubai Culture will support the initiative's mission to encourage Arab youth to use their mother tongue when communicating among themselves on all social media channels. The Authority aims to also help change the stereotype associated with the Arabic language, proving that it is a dynamic and flexible language that can be used in all forms of social communication, and explore and develop creative talents for students in Arabic, especially in regards to events and activities the Authority organises.

Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the UAE’s rich heritage. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures to enhance Dubai's position as a creative and sustainable global city for culture, heritage, arts, and literature, with the aim to empower these sectors by developing creative and innovative projects and initiatives locally, regionally, and globally.
