Dubai Customs has brought down the curtain on the 23rd edition of Carpet and Art Oasis 2018, with sales hitting AED 20 million.
Themed ‘A Fabric of Creativity’, the exhibition organised by Dubai Customs in association with Oilfields Supply Center Ltd featured more than 200,000 exquisite and rare carpets, and over 45 exhibitors from around the world, with carpets this year worth Dh2 billion.
The exhibition, a key event of the Dubai Shopping Festival, is among a few exhibitions in the world to focus on handcrafted silk and wool carpets, said Abdul Rahman Eisa, chairman of the Carpet Oasis’ organizing committee.
As is the case in every edition, the good note this year was the huge footfall of visitors and hand-woven rug lovers, who came to explore the mystic art of carpets and acquire some masterpieces of high-quality handmade carpets to add to their collections.
The pieces displayed were mostly brought from over 12 famous countries along the silk road. Turkmenistan, Morocco and Uzbekistan as well as regular participant countries like India Pakistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and Kashmir were among the exhibitors. There was also a stand dedicated to showcase local carpet offerings.
The 2018 Carpet Oasis was marked by special activities in keeping with the Year of Zayed theme, organized in cooperation with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.
