Dulsco, a regional leader in human resource solutions and waste management services, has touched the 80 year milestone this year. Dulsco was set up in 1935 as a stevedoring company. During its initial years of operation, the company used to provide stevedoring services to ships at the anchorage and barges.
By the 1970s, and with the opening of Port Rashid in Dubai, Dulsco grew into a full-fledged stevedoring company that ably served the port and other companies. The company started providing various categories of manpower services through the eighties. Soon, Dulsco had matured into one of the UAE’s most significant provider of human resource solutions. In the nineties, Dulsco started waste management services, thus expanding its services portfolio. In 2005, Dulsco became a limited liability company and expanded its geographic presence to include all the Emirates and neighbouring Gulf countries, launching operations in Qatar by 2007. While stevedoring continues to be the core business, Dulsco today operates as a full service HR solutions and waste management services provider with staff strength of over 12,000 employees.
To celebrate this important 80th year milestone, Dulsco invited Brain Tracy, one of the world’s leading success experts and motivational speakers to address an exclusive gathering of key stakeholders, clients and employees on the topic, “Leadership excellence to sustain your growth”. During this event, 10 of Dulsco's longest serving employees were honored, some of whom have been with the company for almost 40 years.
“We are delighted to attain this milestone and, as a home grown UAE company, we are even prouder to have achieved this feat. The nation is at an interesting juncture and is set to take the next economic leap forward in the coming years. We are excited to be part of this next phase of the UAE and the region and strive to further contribute to its economic growth and sustainability. The past years have been great but we surely will not pause here. There are miles to go ahead. One thing that is certain, whatever we do in the future our commitment to our employees, clients, society and values will remain firm,” said Abdul Aziz Mohammed Khan Abdulla, Chairman of Dulsco.
Currently, ports across the various emirates have been working with Dulsco as their preferred partner for over four decades. The company also provides HR solutions to four of the leading international airports and waste management services to five of the international airports in the region.
Last year, the company partnered with Dubai Municipality for the latter’s ‘My City My Environment’ Campaign, to make Dubai an environmentally sustainable city. The door-to-door waste segregation, collection and recycling program, was flagged off by the distribution of colour coded bins. Over the course of one year, more than 60,000 UAE residents utilized this service and recycled waste equivalent to saving 14.7 million gallons of water. Dulsco, through its awareness programs, was able to communicate the key message to participating families, maids, schools and commercial establishments.
“As Dulsco continues to achieve success in its multifaceted businesses, it never forgets to give back to the community in which it operates. Dulsco’s efforts in this category are aligned to two strong pillars: contributing to society and environmental awareness. Dulsco has supported children’s education in many ways: full education sponsorship of four students at Al Noor Centre of Special Needs, providing support to Rashid Pediatric Centre, and participation in Dubai Cares through Walk for Education as well as adoption of a school in Nepal. The company has engaged in philanthropic activities that include the donation of ambulances to Red Crescent and providing relief to victims of floods and wars. Workers Welfare has always been a high priority area and Dulsco teamed with Groupon to provide free medical checkup for workers. It teamed up with Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon as its official recycling partner, helping clean up the city by collecting over 86,500 plastic bottles. The Dulsco Employee Volunteering Programme encourages employees to volunteer time and skills for worthy community causes,” stated S. Balakumar, Managing Director of Dulsco.
Recently, Dubai Chamber awarded Dulsco with the CSR Label as a public nod to the company’s commitment and proactive role in being a responsible corporate citizen.
It is also one of the few elite home grown B2B companies to be awarded the Superbrand status by the UAE Superbrands Council, for its significant contribution to social and environmental betterment. Dulsco was acknowledged as one of the ‘Top 15 Companies to Work For’ by the Great Places To Work For Institute, a global research and management consultancy.
