Under the patronage of HRH Princess Lolowah Al Faisal, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and General Supervisor of Effat University, and with the attendance of HRH Princess Reem bint Mohammed Al Faisal, Effat University held its Fourth Annual Photography Exhibition and Competition under the title The Colors in Our Lives. The exhibition was held at Effat University library and the Cultural Museum in Jeddah on Monday December 18, 2017 from noonuntil two pm.
Opened by HRH Princess Lolowah Al Faisal, the exhibition showcased a variety of photographs taken by 43 students from different departments of the university. The exhibition aims to support the work of Saudi artists and spread artistic awareness across Jeddah, as well as in Effat University, the first women’s university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The exhibition and competition also aspire to encourage more professionalism in the production of photographs and publications.
Dean of Effat University Department of Architecture and Design, Dr. Mervat Al Shafei, stated that the exhibition aims to present the ideas of students in the form of photographs, which sometimes express even more than words. She added that another goal is to encourage students to trust in their own abilities and unleash their creative ideas, which have the potential to produce fine works of art.
HRH Princess Lolowah Al Faisal and HRH Princess Reem bint Mohammed Al Faisal presented trophies and certificates to the winners. First prize was awarded to Hessa Al-Dubairi, Entrepreneurship, Effat College of Business;
second place went to Nouf Al-Quaidi, English and Translation, Effat College of Science and Humanities; and in third place was Aroub Bajajah, Architecture, Effat College of Architecture and Design.
There were two third place runners-up, Loujaine Al Habashi and Rivan Obaid, both Architecture, Effat College of Architecture and Design. In the Effat University graduates category the winner was Sara Al Mehrabi, Information Systems, Effat College of Engineering.
Thanking Princess Lolowa and Princess Reem for their patronage and support, Dr. Haifa Jamal Al-Lail, President of Effat University, said “We are very pleased at the large number of entries this year, which showed that Effat students have gone beyond mere proficiency to achieve a very high standard of creativity and professionalism and I congratulate the winners of the competition on the excellence of their examples of the fine art of photography.”
