The leading marine media company Maritime Sky hosted City Law School Maritime Law Conference in collaboration with the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC), and the support of the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), and The City Law School (CLS), part of City, University of London as part of UAE Maritime Week, on Wednesday, 25th September 2019 at the DIFC Conference Centre.
Held under the theme Navigating Changes and Challenges in Global and Regional Shipping, the event served as a platform for legal practitioners and maritime experts to discuss a broad range of topics such as the impact of the UAE’s new maritime law, the practicalities of maritime arbitration in the Middle East, and new legal and market developments.
Mr. Majid Bin Bashir, Acting Chairman & Secretary General, Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC) gave the Keynote Address, and, Prof. Andrew Stockley, Dean, City Law School Welcome Address.
The conference discussed many hot topics like contractual responses to emerging challenges in the market, new business models in the shipping and oil and gas sector, Moving with the pace of Change in Insurance and How This Impacts Claims, and responding to environmental regulatory challenges, and dispute management in the Middle East.
Professor Jason Chuah, Professor of Commercial and Maritime Law and Head of Department at CLS, will lead a training course titled Introduction to Ship Finance Law, following which attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance from City, University of London. Furthermore, those attending will be credited with four CLPD points.
