Against a background of beautiful scenery of a vast open space, filled with native trees and lush vegetation with roaming camels enhancing the beauty of the place, Emirates Environmental Group carried out its national campaign the “Clean UAE” in its 3rd station in Sharjah – the cultural capital of the UAE. The “Clean UAE” campaign is being conducted this year under the patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and in association with the Ministry of Community Development with the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services continuing to play its role as a strategic partner of the campaign in the Emirate of Sharjah.
Sharjah Police music band added a festive vibe to the event as they performed several national patriotic musical pieces. More than 928 people participated and collected 1,532 kg of waste covering an area of 5 km2 in Al Khattam – Al Maliha area. The collected waste was further segregated and the recyclable waste was sent to the designated centers for recycling and the rest were taken by Bee’ah for proper disposal. The event witnessed the active participation of several local government entities including Sharjah Municipality and Sharjah Police.
Mrs. Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Co-Founder and Chairperson of EEG in the opening speech said, “EEG has been a pioneer of environmental activism, education, engagement and outreach programmes in the UAE since 1991. We are very pleased to receive active participation in this campaign from public and private sectors, academic institutions, students, and families. EEG aims to mobilise the efforts of all segments of the society and engage people from all walks of life to come together on a common platform to address sustainability issues on a massive scale.”
“We are delighted to be able to sustain this community oriented multi-stakeholder platform successfully for the last 20 years and effectively showcase the impact of collaborative efforts on the ground. This campaign has registered since its inception in 2002 the participation of 849,228 people from all walks of life. We have succeeded in collecting an outstanding amount of 1,568,896 kg of waste, clean an area of 1,008 km2 and we are continuing!” said Mrs. Al Mar’ashi.
