Emirates Islamic, one of the leading Islamic financial institutions in the UAE, today announced an AED 1 million charitable contribution to Faraj Fund, a body that provides assistance to prison inmates in the UAE, who have been involved in financial cases.
The contribution from Emirates Islamic Charity Fund aided in the release of more than 232 inmates of various nationalities across the UAE, by settling their debts or by paying ‘diya’. The bank also supported inmates who completed their sentences and needed funds for air tickets to return back to their home countries.
Commenting on the contribution, Salah Amin, CEO of Emirates Islamic said: “As one of the country's leading Islamic banks, we constantly seek to help those in need. We are pleased to support Faraj Fund in efforts to release inmates across the UAE and provide assistance to their families. To date, the Emirates Islamic Charity Fund has helped release 232 inmates and we feel proud to see that we have significantly contributed to strengthening the UAE’s position as a global humanitarian leader.”
Awatif Al Harmoodi, General Manager, Operational Quality & Processes, Emirates Islamic said: “Faraj Fund helps Emirates Islamic reach out to inmates with financial debts, and we are very pleased to lend our support to them every year, before the holy month of Ramadan. As a leading local bank committed to serving the UAE community, Emirates Islamic is actively supporting the Year of Tolerance in 2019 and this contribution reaffirms our support of the UAE’s vision of building a peaceful and harmonious society that emphasises diversity, tolerance and coexistence.”
Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Board of Faraj Fund said: “We would like to thank Emirates Islamic for this noble humanitarian contribution as well as their continuous support and cooperation. We will continue to build effective and fruitful partnerships with institutions and companies in the UAE such as Emirates Islamic who are keen to support community initiatives and programs that help make a positive difference.”
This contribution follows similar initiatives by Emirates Islamic to several charitable and humanitarian organisations in the UAE in recent years, and is in keeping with the bank’s objective to support charitable causes via a dedicated charity fund.
The Emirates Islamic Charity Fund provides financial aid under several main areas, including food, shelter, health, education and social welfare. The Fund has been set up with the primary objective of allocation of financial aid to large charities, public and private institutions, as well as individuals in need.
