Empower: District Cooling is the pillar of sustainable smart cities and real estate

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider confirmed that the challenges faced due to Covid-19 pandemic highlights the importance of having sustainable solutions in various sectors, especially adoption of district cooling systems in real estate projects.  District cooling is the most effective and environment friendly space cooling solution that can significantly contribute to build sustainable and resilient smart cities and ensure a safe and prosperous future that responds to crises successfully. The Covid-19 pandemic demonstrated the weaknesses of many traditional solutions including conventional cooling systems and the importance to start employing on sustainable solutions like district cooling systems to cope with the future of smart cities. The energy industry in general, and district cooling in particular, playing important roles as strategic elements for the success of sustainable real estate projects and the growth of sector. Space cooling is yet the main factor governing the occupancy of all types of projects, including residential, commercial, healthcare, educational, cultural, industrial, entertainment and others. All vital sectors work to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development of the nation; and the progress of the real estate market, which reflects the civilized side of the state and serves various spheres, plays a major role in different domains. 

Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, called upon developers to include district cooling in the early stages of their project designs, so as to reduce the construction cost of mega projects, save capital and reduces operating expenses, which in turn cuts down the cost for installing air-conditioning and energy devices for each building and increase efficiency to reduce energy consumption in buildings. He pointed out that Empower has come a long way in accelerating the pace of replacing traditional cooling systems with modern environmentally friendly technologies that ensure the preservation of precious energy and water sources and reduce the carbon footprint. District cooling system reduces energy consumption up to 50% compared to traditional air conditioning systems.

On the sidelines of the Cityscape Exhibition, Empower clarified that the adoption of smart and sustainable district cooling solutions by the developers, enhances customers’ health and happiness, adds to the capital value of the buildings, and emphasizes the concept of satisfied communities. The major real estate companies participating in the event use district cooling services and solutions provided by Empower, which has a diversified portfolio that includes architectural icons and mega projects of Dubai.

Empower has become the first district cooling company in the region to launch e-registration for its customers.  The new online registration service enables new registrants and customers to activate Empower services and create their account with Empower through company’s website www.empower.ae in a safe environment and register. Previously, individual customers, tenants, landlords and real estate development companies had to approach the Company's headquarters or customer service centers, as a prerequisite for registering a project or a property with Empower systems.
