Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (EMPOWER), has announced its participation in the ‘Earth Hour’ initiative, which is organised by The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council on Saturday 25 March.

Empower will turn off the non-essential lights for one hour in all of its branches and plants, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on 25 March. The company has urged all its employees and clients to do the same during this international event. Empower also will participate in the Earth Hour Walkathon at Bay Avenue Park in Business Bay.

Moreover, Empower’s employees will sign a pledge that they will not only turn the lights off at their homes, but also will not turn any home appliances as well as they will strive to save water and not waste any food. This initiative comes part of Empower’scorporate social responsibility.

“Energy conservation takes a central part in Empower’s strategy. In all our projects, we always make ensure that our solutions are eco-friendly and conserve energy. We also striveto use the latest technologies which support our collective efforts in this regard. Empower always organises social events and initiatives targeting its employees, clients and the whole society to reduce energy consumption. A clear example of that is (Saving Starts At 24C) campaign that was held last summer which witnessed tremendous success and won an international award,” said HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

“We inspire our approach to energy conservation fromthe wise vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which states that the happy future we want to ensure for the next generations can only be realised by applying sustainability and green economy principles. Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 represents an overall objective national companies are contributing to achieve. We in Empower and by applying district cooling services are effectively contributing in these efforts. Converting from traditional cooling services to district cooling service helps reducing energy consumption by almost 50%,” continued Bin Shafar.

‘Hour Earth’ is a worldwide movement for the planet organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature. It started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia. Dubai was the first city in the Arab world to participate in this event in 2008. The movement calls participants to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. local time in each participating city.

“Our participation in this movement is an integral part of our social responsibly. We try to raise awareness of the importance of the environmental issues and want to enhance sustainable development culture. We encouraged all our employees and clients to be part of this movement. We urged them also to invite their friends and colleagues to join the efforts. This stems from our firm belief that it is important to face the environmental challenges collectively,” concluded Bin Shafar.
