The International District Energy Association (IDEA) awarded Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, two Gold awards for‘Most total number of buildings’, and ‘Most Total Square Footage’committed to district cooling services outside North America.Both awards were handed out to the Empower in a special ceremony held as part of the 107th IDEA Annual Conference & Tradeshow held in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, from 20-23 June.The awards were received amidst an international recognition to Empower’s efforts to improve its district cooling services locally and internationally.
The awards reflect on the leading role played by Empower on local and international levels and its commitment to adopting advanced infrastructure systems and providing world-class cooling services to a variety of areas. This is alsoa global recognition to the company’s instrumental role in popularising the use of district cooling technology which is considered an environmentally friendly and economical solution for use in residential as well as commercial buildings, hotels and other facilities. The awards also recogniseEmpower’scapabilities to save significant amounts of resources in operational costs, preserve energy and protect the environment.
“We are receiving these gold awards for the tenth consecutive times as we boast 28 awards from IDEA alone. The awards recognise the efforts of the UAE and the Emirate of Dubai to ensure a sustainable future; they are also a testament to our determination, motivation and persistence to deliver our message which serves our nation and the world.This shows that Dubai plays a very strategic role as a pioneer in the field of district cooling regionally and worldwide. Moreover, we are exerting relentless efforts to spread this technology to a number of developing countries. This stems from being a role model in the fields of sustainability and energy efficiency,” said HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.“Empower won the awards after significant competition with some of international players in the industry, and we are keep on wining same or similar IDEA awards since 2005. Bin Shafarsaid that Dubai is a pioneering city as it highlights world-class district cooling systems and it deploys latest energy efficiency solutionsbacked with sound infrastructure. HE Bin Shafar linked this achievement to Dubai’sand the UAE’s vision, particularly Dubai’s 2021 plan.
Empower currently operates more than 1.1 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, among others.
