Ericsson was named “Most Committed Company to Diversity” at the CommsMEA Awards event for 2015 that took place at Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai on November 11th.
This award goes to a company which has kept a strong focus on empowering women in the telecoms sector. Ericsson aims to boost the number of women in its workforce to 30% by 2020. It also launched a regional Diversity and Inclusion council to help fulfil its diversity strategies.
This year’s 16 awards were divided into four main categories with the first section recognizing innovative services and applications; the second focusing on specific aspects of operators’ businesses, and the third looking at progress achieved by operators in their entirety. The last category aims to recognize operators and individuals that have demonstrated a level of commitment to the sector beyond the call of duty.
Ericsson’s award falls under the Editor’s Choice category as a testimonial to the ICT world that showcases the company’s leading position as visionary technology leader that focuses on empowering women.
“It is our honor to be once again awarded by CommsMEA. Our award is directly in-line with our commitment to diversity strategy. There is a growing realization and rightfully so that wholistic development can happen only through Inclusion, in its totality. We as a are strongly committed to ”Diversity & Inclusion” and in RMEA we have a special focus on increasing gender diversity across our operations. There has been a steady increase in the number of women holding senior level positions within Ericsson and RMEA. A proof point is that the President of our region is a woman and we have another three business/functional heads in our Regional Leadership team who are women. Our focused diversity council is helping us drive our diversity agenda across Ericsson Middle East” said Girish Johar, Vice President and Head of Human Resources of Ericsson Region Middle East.
The 10th edition of the annual CommsMEA Awards acknowledges operators and individuals who have taken a leadership role in the region’s fast growing and rapidly changing telecoms sector. The Awards also honors companies that have invested in technology, implemented winning strategies and developed services to capture the hearts and minds of end-users. Most of all, the Awards aim to recognize those organizations that have helped turn the communications sector in the Middle East and Africa into one of the most dynamic and vibrant in the world.
