GMC Middle East partnered with Rotana, the prominent Pan-Arab media company, to run an engaging Arabic Poetry competition and give aspiring Arab poets a platform to share their talent. Following weeks of anticipation, Badr Al-Dossary was announced as the winner just ahead of World Poetry Day.
The Arabic poetry competition hosted on Rotana’s Twitter channel, featuring the GMC Yukon, ran from February 9 to 23, 2021 and was open to anyone interested in showcasing their passion and love for the nameplate. All participants had to do to take part, was to comment on the competition tweet using #Yukon and share their admiration for this premium SUV through the verses of their poems. The entries with the most creative integration of the GMC Yukon held the highest chances of winning.
Participants were asked to abide by specific guidelines to ensure their entry wasn’t disqualified. Specifically, the poem had to include at least one of the following words associated with the Yukon: “The Lion”, “Premium”, “Though”, “Modern” or “Jimss” the name GMC has come to be known for in the Middle East region. The eligible poems were the original pieces written by the commentor, in Arabic and free of any spelling or grammatical mistakes.
Badr Al-Dossary, the winner of the competition, will benefit from the unique opportunity of being hosted on Rotana Khalijia channel to share his piece of art with the audience. Additionally, his poem was one of 70 shortlisted entries that were published across billboards in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from the end of February leading to March: the month of poetry.
Commenting on his win, Badr Al-Dossary said: “I absolutely loved taking part in this Arabic Poetry competition, among many other creative minds, and describing the GMC Yukon, through verses of my very own poem. Thank you to GMC and Rotana for hosting such an engaging competition and for choosing me as the winner. I am thrilled to get this incredible opportunity to share my talent, not only on social media but also on television. Poetry will always be one of my biggest passions.”
Over 159 aspiring poets took part of the competition, including renowned Egyptian actor and comedian Mohamed Henedy. The competition generated over 200K engagement activities including retweets, likes and comments.
GMC considers the Middle East market like its own, having been part of it for decades, and the Arab culture is part of its DNA. As a matter of fact, GMC started the year by celebrating the connection with the Arab region, through “Legacy of Verse” campaign, and this competition further supports the brand in honoring the Arab culture.
