HEC Paris in Qatar, one of the world’s top three providers of Executive Education programs, has announced the appointment of a new Dean and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Nils Plambeck, who begins his duties with immediate effect.
Working with HEC Paris since 2004, Dr. Plambeck holds a Doctorate in Economic and Social Sciences from the University of Hamburg and a Diploma in Business Administration (Diplom Kaufmann) with a focus on Strategy and Sociology.
As an Associate Professor in the Strategy and Business Policy department of HEC Paris, Dr. Plambeck was the Academic Director for the MSc in Strategic Management in the last year. Prior to this, he was responsible for the core strategy course at the HEC Grande Ecole, and shared responsibility for the strategic implementation courses of the Executive MBA. In addition, he is frequently involved in the development and design of custom leadership and executive development programs in different industries such agriculture, banking, consumer goods, energy, healthcare, pulp & paper production in countries such as France, Italy, Qatar, Oman and Russia.
Dr. Plambeck has taught in a variety of programs (e.g., Masters, MBA, Executive MBA, TRIUM Global MBA, and custom programs). In recent years, his teaching activity was centered around business strategy and strategy implementation in executive programs.
His primary research interests concern managers’ role for strategic behavior of firms. He seeks to answer questions such as how CEOs and top management teams influence their companies’ strategic actions. How does CEOs’ thinking shape strategic actions? What are the organizational and environmental determinants of top managers’ cognitive processes?
Dr. Plambeck commented: “I am both honored and excited to be the Dean and CEO of HEC Paris in Qatar. During the last years, my predecessors, Antoine Hyafil, and Laoucine Kerbache, and our team at HEC Paris in Qatar have led our organization to great successes. Our partnership with Qatar Foundation goes from strength to strength and we are proud of our sustained contribution towards the Qatar National Vision 2030.
“In my new position, I will build on the successful work and will also direct HEC Paris in Qatar to let our organization further help educating people who are and will contribute to the region’s economic and social development. These people can be from any segment, such as small and medium enterprises, large corporations, ministries, or non-profit organizations.
Accordingly, we will not only continue to offer world class executive education, but we will also continuously refine our offer and innovate in order to address the current needs and future developments. For this, we will work closely with our stakeholders, we will use our local expertise and integrate the vast knowledge foundation and creation of HEC Paris. While we will use existing knowledge and adapt it locally, we will also engage in generating new insights with local and ideally global relevance.”
