Home to Sweet Dates - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Global Village
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a much sought after pavilion in Global Village. It is designed as the sacred Al Haram mosque – or Grand Mosque - in the city of Mekka, giving the façade of the KSA pavilion, a holy and divine feel.
As one of the largest pavilions in Global Village, KSA offers a wide range of cultural and traditional specialties for guests to seek out. The hospitality of the stall owners can be experienced first-hand by their traditional welcoming rituals, which include the wide variety of complimentary coffee and dates that are given to guests to create a feeling of affinity.
The wide variety of dates is of course one of the main products sold at the KSA pavilion and with them being the stars of the KSA pavilion, it is interesting to note that they mainly come from two regions in Saudi Arabia – Al Medina and Al Qassim region. These two regions are known for producing some of the finest and sweetest dates in the world. The KSA pavilion also tantalizes its guests with the fragrance of authentic Bakhour, deer musk, Oud, and perfumed oils. These scents are welcoming and are traditionally used in the Saudi households when they have visitors so as to make them feel at home.
For the men who visit the KSA pavilion and are interested in owning the traditional Shemagh – the tradition head gear used to shade the face and head from the sun - one of the most authentic versions of the style can be found at this pavilion. The pattern that adorns the Shemagh is thought to have originated from Mesopotamian-era Arabia as a representation of the fishing nets and crops, showcasing the culture and traditions that were predominant before oil became such a big commodity for the country. Guests to the pavilion can also enjoy fantastic traditional music from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, all performed live and daily on the pavilion’s cultural stage. A world full of wonderful tastes and smells are available for all at Global Village throughout Season 19, and the KSA pavilion continues to be one of the most visited country pavilions since the inauguration of Global Village.
