JAGUAR RACING BACK IN BROOKLYN IN BID FOR TOP SPOT IN FORMULA E TEAMS’ WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Jaguar Racing cross the Atlantic Ocean to race on the streets of Brooklyn, New York for rounds ten and eleven of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. With a formidable driver line-up and a quick race car, the team is focussed on securing a competitive points haul at the double-header on Saturday 10 July and Sunday 11 July.

The Oxfordshire-based racing team currently sit third in the Teams’ World Championship - with only four points separating them from Mercedes EQ who sit at the top of the table. The team have been using the weeks prior to the ABB New York E-Prix to prepare the Jaguar I-TYPE 5 for this important race weekend and return to Red Hook for the first time in two years.

Drivers, Sam Bird and Mitch Evans, both have fond memories of the Brooklyn street circuit after podium results at previous E-Prixs and are a powerful pairing for competitors on track.

Evans sits fifth in the ABB FIA Formula E Driver World Championship with only 12 points between the New Zealander and Edoardo Mortara, the championship leader. Although teammate Bird is P12 in the ABB FIA Formula E Driver World Championship, he is 23 points behind Mortara – less than a race win – showing the championship race is still all to play for.

James Barclay, Team Director Jaguar Racing, said: “The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is certainly offering the highly competitive environment we enjoy racing in as a team. We are just four points away from the top of the Teams’ World Championship and our aim in the heart of New York is to return to the top of this table. In Sam Bird and Mitch Evans we have a strong driving pairing who have raced well on the streets of Brooklyn before and our Jaguar I-TYPE 5 has demonstrated it has the performance to put us on the podium. We are focussed and determined to get the most points out of the New York double-header as possible.”

Sam Bird, #10 Jaguar Racing driver, said: “As we enter the second half of the season, I know our team and our car have the performance available to achieve points and podiums in New York. I have great memories here after a back-to-back victory in season three and I am very much looking to replicate this success. I’m in group two for qualifying which should be a little advantage as we aim to make it to Super Pole (top six shootout). The teams’ and drivers’ championships are very close and competitive and I am determined to get the best result in both E-Prixs.”

Mitch Evans, #20 Jaguar Racing driver, said: “It’s always great to be racing in New York – it’s a place and a track which is one of the most special on the race calendar. In season five, the last time we raced here, I achieved my best result at the circuit with second place on the podium. Having raced here multiple times and with the Jaguar I-TYPE 5 pace looking strong, we’ve been working hard ahead of the double-header, as a team, to make sure myself and the racecar are in a position to push for a podium result again.”
