Jawaher Al Qasimi Promotes Nada Askar Al Naqbi to Director General of Sharjah Women Sports Foundation

Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of the Sharjah Women Sports Foundation (WSF), has issued an administrative decision to promote Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director of Women Sports Department (WSD), to Director General of the WSF. The decision is in line with Her Highness’s efforts to support and empower women, enabling them to contribute positively to society by leading national foundations that elevate UAE communities.

 

WSF was established in November 2016 through an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, Chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. The foundation focuses on developing and elevating women’s sports in Sharjah and the UAE, and facilitates Emirati sportswomen’s involvement in various regional and international events and encourages them to engage in a variety of different sports.

 

 

The directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi to promote Nada Al Naqbi reflects the importance of placing Emirati women into senior roles in order to make best use of their talents. This vision is in line with the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership to empower women and enhance their role in building healthy and productive generations, both through the upbringing of children and through the responsibilities they undertake in their professional roles.

 

 

Nada Al Naqbi has held several posts in the sports field and has accumulated a vast degree  of experience. She has been the Director of WSD since 2008 and the Secretary General of the Sharjah Award for Sports Family, and Head of the Executive Committee and Manager of Arab Women Sports Tournament since 2012. She is also a member of the UAE Women's Sports Committee since 2009. In addition to being the Chairperson of the Women's Committee at the Arab Karate Association, and a member of Sharjah Tatweer (Development) since its inception in 2005.

 

Al Naqbi has received a number of accolades and distinctions throughout her career. Among the awards bestowed on her are the Excellence Medal during the Silver Jubilee of the Sharjah Ladies Club in 2004, the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Creative Sports Award in 2009, the Medal of Sharjah's Sports Leaders in 2012 and the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Women Athletes in 2013.  

Al Naqbi obtained a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the United Arab Emirates University in 2000. Possessing a strong will to drive Emirati women forward by offering them the best opportunities and by empowering them in positions of responsibility, she has been instrumental in developing women's sports as the Director of WSD. She is credited with providing women in the UAE with the optimum environment to practice sports, with this commitment resulting in an array of achievements in the field of UAE women’s sports over the past eight years.
