Maraya Concert Hall evokes the timeless genius of Beethoven

Maraya Concert Hall celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of composer, musician and world-famous pianist Beethoven this weekend, as part of the activities at Winter at Tantora Festival in its second season, that is organised by the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU). The ceremony commemorates the works of the musician whose creations enriched the music library in the world and affirmed AlUla's position as a historic site of the world and human heritage.

During the two-day ceremony, international artists Renaud Capuçon, Lit Armstrong, Edgar Moreau, Guillame Chilemme, Adrien La Marca, and the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse will present a tribute to the works of Beethoven and perform a set of his timeless musical works.

Ludwig van Beethoven is a German composer, musician, and pianist who lived from 1770 to 1827. He is considered one of the prominent figures in the classical era and is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential geniuses of classical music. During his relatively short life spanning fifty-seven years, Beethoven created everlasting musical works and had the most significant credit for developing the world of classical music in his time. His works include nine symphonies, five concertos on the piano and one on violin, thirty-two pieces on the piano and sixteen quartets. He composed chamber music and choir pieces as well.

Beethoven's musical talent emerged at an early age, and his reputation began to deteriorate when he became completely deaf by the end of his life. However, Beethoven maintained his compositional career, and composed one of his most well-known pieces during that time. He continued writing until his inevitable death in 1827.

In the arms of the picturesque nature of AlUla, the concert of Beethoven's melodies takes place at Maraya Concert Hall, which is the largest theatre constructed with mirrors in the world, it represents a modern architectural masterpiece and can accommodate about five-hundred guests with the addition of high-quality opera theatre sound systems. The festival also includes many other diverse activities in the local markets, winter garden, farms, and the old town.

Over the course of 12 weeks, the Winter at Tantora Festival will present plentiful activities that express the merging of Eastern and Western cultures, embodying the extension of AlUla's civilisation and its historical symbolism as it remained a defined core for cultures and civilisations from different parts of the world throughout history.

Winter at Tantora also offers a wide range of diverse experiences that meet the needs of all visitors and entertain all tastes — whether for individuals, groups or families — from all walks of life. The festival will take place on weekends starting 19th December 2019, and running until 7th March 2020. Guests of the second season of this year will be able to visit the astonishing historical and heritage sites exclusively and attend the international musical and artistic performances revived by ancient artists who left their marks in the art of the Arab and international music world.
