MAWANI says container handling up 5% to 721,600 TEUs in August

Saudi ports reported a 5% rise in container handling to 721,630 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in August 2023, compared to 688,670 TEUs in the same month last year.
 

 

In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers grew by nearly 6% to 218,050 in August, from 205,740 in the prior-year period. The number of inbound containers also increased by 2% to 226,740, compared to 222,480 containers in August 2022.
 

 

The number of transshipment containers jumped by over 6% YoY to 276,840 in August. By contrast, foodstuff fell by about 30% to 1.6 million tons from 1.57 million tons in August.
 

 

The number of vessels increased by 8% to 1,026 in the same month. Further, about 74,600 passengers were received at Saudi ports, a rise of 38% year-on-year (YoY). The number of vehicles saw a 3% increase YoY to 74,370.
