MENA Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Congress concludes today

MENA Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Congress concludes in Dubai with the support of UAE Ministry of Health and Dubai Health Authority and organized by Maarefah Management. It recommends adopting the latest techniques and advanced technologies in the public and private centers at local and regional levels in order to support endeavors to improve the quality of healthcare services provided in this vital area.

The participants confirmed the significance to leverage the latest technological innovations and advanced devices for patients in need for a long-term treatment such as paralysis or spinal and brain injuries. Among regional challenges in this area is the lack of up-to-date necessary equipment which is available worldwide but expensive. As a result, patients travel abroad for treatment increasing the expenses of health sector.

Participants also endorsed that rehabilitation today has become a vital field in healthcare sector. Therefore, it is imperative to focus on training for doctors and all workers in this field along with the updated equipment, which enhances the role of the specialist, increases the ratio and healing speed of the patient, and reduces the cost. In addition, the participants highlighted the growing number of patients in the field of rehabilitation each year as a result of the high number of diseases as well as accidents in particular.

The leading congress is held with the support of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM), European Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ESPRM), Asian Oceanic Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (AOSPRM), and Southern African Neurological Rehabilitation Association (SANRA). Its activities included scientific lectures and interactive workshops provided by a group of regional experts. The congress covered the most important issues in this area, such as muscle and bone treatment, diseases of the neuromuscular system, rehabilitation of children and treatment of acute pain, the management of long-term spinal cord injury, the latest developments in acute injury management in the spine, and long-term rehabilitation.
