Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Al-Khudairi said new regulations for social media sites are being studied in a bid to promote the new media. He called on all Saudi newspapers to provide their proposals and opinions in this regard.
These proposals will help the ministry to create an integrated project to serve its goals, according to a local daily. “The study of new regulations hopefully will create a kind of community interaction. The integrated project will take advantage of the new media. At the same time, the Ministry of Information and Culture makes strong efforts to highlight a civilized image of Saudi Arabia,” Al-Khudairy said during a visit to the ministry’s pavilion at the Historic Jeddah Festival on Friday evening.
“The new project will protect the rights of individuals; all Saudi newspapers must work as one team and avoid giving exposure to rumors or a bad image of Saudi Arabia. The media standards in the Kingdom must meet with the requirements of our religion, which prohibits assaults on the rights of individuals and societies,” he added. Al-Khudairi stressed the importance of the Saudi media role in highlighting the history and culture of the Kingdom. The historic festivals in the Kingdom need adequate media coverage to promote our culture and history. At the same time, the Saudi TV channels also play a big role to send the voice of the Saudi culture to all Arabic speakers who reside in the Kingdom,” he added.
The minister said Saudi Arabia has many achievements in the tourism sector, which need to be highlighted in the local media to send a good image of the Kingdom abroad. He hoped the Ministry of Information and Culture’s efforts will make the Historic Jeddah Festival a success.
