Nahdi Medical Company started its Diabetes program back in 2015 with 11 operating dedicated in-pharmacy education clinics in 7 different cities, and by 2017 the program expanded to reach 50 operating education clinics in 20 different cities, aiming to reach 100 by 2020.

In line with Nahdi’s strategy to further expand its Diabetes program and as the latter achieved outstanding success, Nahdi decided to make this initiative a story to benefit the community as well as others can learn from. Accordingly, Sarah Turkistani, Head of Health and Community Service at Nahdi Medical Company presented a useful and valuable piece of information at the American Diabetes Association 79thscientific sessions in San Francisco, United stated of America.

The American Diabetes Association's Scientific Sessions is the largest diabetes meeting in the world, bringing together nearly 18,000 participants—including more than 14,000 clinicians and researchers from all 50 states and over 100 countries.

Sarah demonstrated -through her presentation at the ADA- how Nahdi started the journey of the Diabetes program, as well as the lifestyle of the people of Saudi Arabia, the social well being and food styles, the diabetes levels in the Kingdom and the Vision 2030 in relevance to the subject.

She explained how Nahdi adopted the diabetes cause and the large efforts the company exerted to give back to the community and achieve its goals. “Nahdi recognized the need of having in-pharmacy diabetes education clinics and in collaboration with Joslin Diabetes Center (Joslin), the partnership, -under the supervision of the KSA Ministry of Health (MOH)-, was developed under the name of “Let’s Talk About Diabetes” (LTAD) program, which leveraged Nahdi’s established guest relationship to engage and educate people on diabetes.” Turkistani said.

“The primary objective of the program was to demonstrate that retail community pharmacists could successfully recruit, engage, counsel, and educate people with diabetes, and that pharmacists could serve as a trusted source of information for people living with diabetes in KSA”, she added. “And the presentation in USA reflected an outstanding experience for Nahdi and we received positive feedback from the audience at the conference which was really recognized. And this proves that Nahdi, has done prodigious initiative that we will continue to grow and move it towards another success”, Sarah concluded.
