Neom Green Hydrogen Co.’s (NGHC) completed 60% of its preparatory work, with majority of heavy equipment, solar panels and windmills already delivered and additional shipments expected, CEO Wesam Alghamdi said.
In an interview with Asharq Business on the sidelines of the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) forum, he revealed that the company’s actual operations will begin in December 2026.
In July 2020, NEOM partnered with US-based Air Products and ACWA Power in a $5 billion agreement to establish a hydrogen production facility in NEOM megaproject, aimed at delivering sustainable solutions for the global transportation sector and addressing climate change by implementing practical measures to reduce carbon emissions, according to Argaam.
The facility will produce green ammonia, which will be transported and converted into hydrogen for use as a transportation fuel, using 4 gigawatts (GW) of combined solar and wind energy to produce 240,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 1.2 million tons of green ammonia.
