Nikon Museum opens its doors to the public in October 2015

Nikon Middle Eats & Africa is pleased to announce that the Nikon Museum will open on October 17, 2015, on the second floor of its head office in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan to mark the brand’s 100th anniversary foundation in 2017. The museum’s purpose is to exhibit technologies and traditions from the foundation of Nikon, as well as its innovations and evolution through the years.

 

The museum will comprise of 580 m2 exhibition space displaying valuable Nikon products including the ‘NSR-1505G2A’ step-and-repeat system with a movable wafer stage, and approximately 450 Nikon cameras from the ‘Nikon Model I’, which was the first Nikon camera released in 1948. The latest digital cameras, microscopes, measuring instruments, and others that have supported the various innovations in science and industry will also be on display.

 

Various commemorative goods will be offered in the museum shop, including postcards, Japanese-style washcloths, clear plastic folders, tote bags, and an original packaged Japanese sweet, ‘Nikon Yokan’. Selected online-only items such as tumblers will also be made available.

 

Exhibition Contents:

 

A Century at Nikon - A broad overview of Nikon's diverse history from its foundation in 1917 to the present day.

 

Synthetic Silica Glass Ingot - Nikon's integrated manufacturing system that starts with optical materials including the Synthetic Silica Glass Ingot is a major strength for Nikon.

 

Theater

‘LUX CENTURIAE - A Century of Light’ is a symphonic suite composed by the Japanese composer Kaoru Wada, for Nikon's 100th anniversary. 

 

Universe of Nikon 

From high precision measurements in nanometers to outer space measured in light years, Nikon's product line-up spans a remarkably wide range. 

 

Lens Laboratory 

The Lens Laboratoryfor both children and adults, gives you hands-on experiences to learn about the characteristics of light and lenses and the basics of lens design. 

 

Spirit of Nikon 

We present the roots and spirit of Nikon's first 100 years through the themes ‘Optics as a source’, ‘In pursuit of precision’, ‘Passing on proven skills’, ‘Quality and reliability’, ‘Consistency and innovation’, and ‘The best of the age’.
