The number of Saudi students pursuing higher studies in vocational courses in Indian universities is growing. According to Saudi Embassy in New Delhi, there are currently 165 students pursuing studies at 11 Indian universities. All of them have opted for degrees that include medicine, engineering, information technology, natural science, business administration, accounting, trade and human rights studies, a report by the embassy said.
According to the report, many of the students pursuing higher degrees in Indian universities have gone there under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program that provides access to the best world universities to pursue studies that lead to higher degrees like bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate and medical fellowships. The scholarships aim to qualify Saudi human resources to be world-competitive in the labor market and academic research. However, the report noted that there are many others students who are studying in India on their own expense as a personal or family choice for higher studies. Reacting to the growing number of Saudi students in India, an Indian diplomat said: “The education sector has huge potential for increased relationships between the two countries.”
He maintained that higher education in India has witnessed tremendous growth with increase in its institutional and infrastructural capacity.
