The capacity of electricity plants at the holy sites now stands at 18,680MW, according to the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).
Ziyad bin Mohammad Al-Sheiha, chief executive officer of the SEC, said that various upgrades and distribution projects have been completed to meet the expected increase in demand during the Haj period.
He said the SEC has just started several projects in Makkah including at the Grand Mosque and Jabal Omar to ensure supply meets demand during the expansion period.
“Other electricity projects underway include those on the first circular road, security headquarters at holy sites’ government complex, Al-Muaisim accommodation camp, Ministry of Defense project in Mina and the Al-Zamzamah office,” he said.
