At a special meeting dated on October 23, 2019 RAS AL Khaimah waste water agency (RAKWA) and Durrat Al Khaleej Sweet Water Company have signed a Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) water sale agreement. The agreement would see some 2500 cubic meters of TSE water, per day, delivered to Durrat Al Khaleej in the second quarter of 2020 and looking forward to increasing the volume to around 5000 cubic meters per day by the first quarter of 2023.
Currently 70% of treated waste water is reused in Ras Al Khaimah for irrigation of the City or commercial and industrial use , this agreement will see a significant step towards RAKWA vision to reuse 100% .
With continuing population growth in the Emirate and the ever increasing demand for water there is a need to find solutions to preserve water resources This agreement supports these efforts and is aligned The RAK Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Strategy 2040, to achieve water savings of 20% by 2040.
RAKWA is a Government Agency under the Public Service Department responsible for providing wastewater services to the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. It has made significant investments during the past three years to improve its wastewater infrastructure with a program of refurbishment and expansion and is currently developing a Master Plan to provide long term plans, programs and investments
