Riyadh Municipality signs 5 contracts worth SAR 6B to improve road quality

Riyadh Municipality signed five contracts worth SAR 6 billion aimed at improving road quality in the Saudi capital, with the scope of work covering an area of 83 million square meters for a period of five years.

According to the municipality, these contracts are aimed at stepping Riyadh’s Road quality and bolstering safe commuting city-wide. This is besides advancing its international standards for measuring road quality, while enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of the services provided.

The contracts include rehabilitation and asphalting works by upgrading the capital city’s road network, said the municipality, adding that works will extend until 2028 and will be implemented in coordination with a number of relevant authorities.

It also stated that it follows a mechanism for dividing the city into five zones, namely the north, south, east, west and central zones. This is to determine work priorities based on certain standards deprived from a comprehensive survey of Riyadh’s road network using the latest technologies. Work areas will factor in the quality of current roads, safety standards, maintenance works, and coordination with other city entities.

The Infrastructure Projects Center in Riyadh, established under the Cabinet's decision dated July 19, 2023, contributes among its roles to ensuring no duplication of work and the sustainability of road quality improvement. This is through a comprehensive detailed plan for infrastructure work in Riyadh, including programs designated for each project, tailored timetables, and planned implementation phases, it added.
