Sanofi Saudi Arabia Launches phosphorus mission

Sanofi, a global healthcare leader, has launched an innovative Renal Game in Saudi Arabia. The application is an Arabic interactive educational tool for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), their families and healthcare professionals plus the general public.

The game is tailored not only for the Saudi patients but also for CKD patients from all the Middle East and North African countries. Educational and entertaining, the application helps patients better understand their disease, Phosphorus Risk and importance of controlling it, treatment options, and dietary choices related to their health.

Commenting on this new innovative tool, Dr. Saeed Alghamdi, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, and Renal Diseases and Transplants Consultant at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, declared: “Kidney failure is a condition in which the kidneys fail to adequately filter waste products from the blood or eliminating fluids in excess.  Sanofi's new application is an important tool for patient education on how to control phosphors levels in their systems, hence allowing their body to normalize and get rid of excess phosphors in their system - since excess levels of it is life-threatening."

Dr. Fiassal Shaheen, Senior consultant of internal medicine and nephrology, and the general director of the Saudi Center for organ transplantation , also expressed his opinion on the new renal game: “around 15,000 patients in Saudi Arabia are CDK patients are on dialysis. The disease is considered chronic if the destruction is irreversible. If severe renal impairment is permanent, renal function may be supplemented by dialysis or transplant. Sanofi's new tool will enable patients to assimilate essential information on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and understand the impact of food choices and the role of prescribed treatments."

On this occasion, Dr. Salah Mousa, the General Manager of Sanofi Saudi Arabia, said: "Phosphorus Mission, the first in a series of application developed by Sanofi, demonstrates our commitment to innovating for patients and going "beyond the pill”. Through gaming mechanics and educational psychology principles, Phosphorus Mission aims to educate patients about the management of excess phosphorus in their diet and the role of phosphorus on increasing overall risk of mortality."

The application is available to be downloaded for free on Apple and Android devices
