Sharjah Girl Guides Workshop Develops Girls’ Creative Writing Skills

The Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) concluded its participation at the training workshop organised by the Department of Children Centres, as part of the 5th edition of Sharjah Children Biennial that was held under the slogan ‘A World as Big as Your Imagination’. The workshop aimed to develop and polish creative writing and story-making skills and capabilities of 15 participating Guides between 12–15 years of age, through innovation and self-development.

Held at Mughaider Child Center in Sharjah, the workshop engaged the girls in several interactions with talented artists who helped them work on their writing skills through practical applications. The girls created works of fiction as well as non-fiction, which expressed their dreams and aspirations. They started by outlining the main characters, developing plots and how every character will play out throughout the storyline, finally linking individual events to make complete stories, which were completed and presented during the workshop.

Shaikha Al Shamsi, Assistant Manager at SGG, said, “This workshop forms part of a comprehensive programme organised by our partners at the Department of Children Centres, which comprises three sessions on ‘Fantasy and Reality’. We were keen to participate in this workshop to provide our girls with guidance and direction in the field of creative writing. SGG is home to many young girls who display exceptional writing and illustration talents, which we are determined develop and polish.”

The guiding movement was first established in Sharjah in 1973 after which it spread to all seven emirates, giving rise to the Girl Guides Association of the United Arab Emirates in 1979. Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, SGG aims to inspire and nurture future generations to become progressive global citizens by providing a platform for girls to develop to their fullest potential.
