Sharjah International Book Fair Combines Education and Entertainment during its Kid’s Programme

The Kids Programme of the 35th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2016), taking place from November 2-12, will bring together an elite group of internationally acclaimed figures and global bands that will enthrall children with shows combining entertainment and education that reflect SIBF's keenness on advancing children's experiences and enriching their imaginations.

The programme has a lineup of diverse events and activities featuring concerts, magic and illusion games and a series of theatrical and educational routines, namely the musical performance ‘Sesame’, which includes the ‘Taking a New Friend’ show, based on direct interaction with the audience.

The little ones will also be entertained with a production of the ‘Addams Family’, a family of seven spooky characters living in an old abandoned house, who receive a guest at a birthday party leading to a series of classic comedy scenes.

For lovers of fun-filled events and stunt acts, this year's SIBF brings the ‘Beijing Circus’ from China to its audience in the UAE. The show will be presented by eight professional stunt performers, jugglers, artists and gymnasts who ultimately show their strength and skills in the form of a human pyramid.

The audience will also be treated to the ‘Digital Magician’ entertainment events, which involve a range of traditional and innovative illusions and magic games where virtual shapes are turned into a reality.

From magic to musicals and children will get the opportunity to watch famous "Let it Go" singer Brian Hull, whose hit from the Oscar Award-winning movie "Frozen" was viewed 40 million times online after he released a video of himself singing the song.

Popular child singer Rama Rabat will also perform live and present a selection of the famous songs which helped her to gain recognition in the Arab world, such as "Oh Eid" and other songs.

The Peter Pan musical will be one of the highlights of the Kid’s Programme. Peter tells the tale of his travels to London, and how he brings his new friends Wendy, John and Michael, into the world of Neverland. There they meet mermaids, Red Indian warriors and pirates, as well as the infamous Captain Hook.

SIBF is also dedicating a workshop entitled 'Our Paintings’ by Japanese artist Hikaru Chu, where children will have an open space to learn the basics of 3D drawing and painting, and understand dimensions and sizes. The workshop aims to develop children's artistic skills and creativity and unleash their imagination and the ability of anthropomorphism and innovation.

From entertainment to astronomy, SIBF will host Mark Thompson, a British astronomer, television presenter and writer best known for being one of the presenting team on the BBC show Stargazing Live, The One Show, This Morning, and Good Morning Britain. Thompson is a regular guest on BBC Radio shows and has written four books on astronomy. He has also published several scientific magazines – and a qualified pilot!

Also participating in the Sharjah Book Fair 2016 is scientist and artist Alexander Dang who is involved in environmental issues and renewable energy sources through contemporary art. He has organised several workshops and activities for children in many countries, such as China, the United States of America, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Morocco and many parts of Europe. Through these workshops, Dang aims to introduce children to the potential of sustainable energy sources and the future challenges associated with them.
