Sharjah Women Sports Foundation Hosts Saif Biladi 2017 Delegation

Sharjah Women’s Sport Foundation (SWSF) yesterday hosted a delegation from ‘Saif Biladi 2017’ to attend the closing of the summer camp held at its Central Region branch.

 

An annual national summer program organized by the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare and the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, Saif Biladi (Summer in My Country) aspires to keep school children gainfully occupied during the long summer holiday by helping them to acquire new skills and experiences.

Attended by HE Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director General of SWSF and her colleagues, Fatima Ahmed, Assistant Manager Communication & Business Management Section, the event saw representatives from Saif Biladi’s Supreme Committee take a tour of the branch and its three-week summer camp, which was held from July 16 - August 3.  

 

After being briefed on the camp’s activities, the Saif Biladi supreme committee members praised SWSF’s commitment to making the program a great success and paid tribute to its initiatives designed to hone the talents and build the capacities of the youngsters attending.

 

SWSF’s summer camp featured an array of entertainment and recreation activities, including sporting competitions in archery, basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, karate and taekwondo. The program’s workshops and sessions included handicraft and cooking lessons that were all conducted under the supervision of qualified instructors. Excursions to cultural attractions and leisure destinations in Sharjah were also undertaken during the mornings.

 

“The visit by the Saif Biladi supreme committee members emphasized the special relationship that binds SWSF and the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare. Our joint efforts promote healthy lifestyles, foster a culture of learning and encourage the acquisition of new skills in young people. Through our annual summer camp we aim to promote the optimal use of summer holidays by our students and invest their leisure time in strengthening their physical and mental wellbeing,” said HE Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director General of SWSF.

 

“The three weeks of activities were welcomed by parents who were extremely enthusiastic about the camp and its carefully formulated program designed to keep their children engaged throughout the long summer vacation. They expressed gratitude that it afforded their children the opportunity to acquire new skills that will stand them in good stead for the future,” she added.

SWSF was established in 2016 under an Emiri decree from His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Since its inception, the foundation has promoted Emirati sportswomen in sporting forums and has worked dedicatedly to developing their capacity to compete in regional and international events. The foundation strives to establish a modern integrated system that paves the way for the creation of a female-friendly climate in compliance with the latest international practices related to women’s sports.
