Shoura working on benefits package for martyr families

The Shoura Council is studying a proposal to create a martyrs’ directorate under the Ministry of Interior that would pay out SR1 million to their families, waive all their debts, appoint their sons in their positions if the law allows it, and pay their parents SR5,000 a month.

The proposal includes providing accommodation for their families, either in government housing, or their own without having to take out loans to purchase property.
The directorate set up under the Interior Ministry would provide support and services for the families of martyrs and have branches throughout the country, it has been proposed, a local publication reported Friday.

The directorate would deal with those who lost their lives or were incapacitated while serving the nation. It would cover citizens and expatriates who were killed or injured by terrorists in the country.

The benefits for these victims would include medical treatment, health insurance for their families, and subsidized transport. Martyrs would be promoted posthumously. There would also be promotions for those injured in the line of duty.

In addition, those injured would get SR300,000 in immediate emergency aid, suitable jobs and transfer to any city in the country. There should also be jobs provided for the wives and children of martyrs, it has been proposed.

In addition, other family members must be accepted at universities, military and vocational colleges and training institutes. They should also get priority in terms of domestic and foreign scholarships, if they meet the minimum requirements.
