To mark the UAE’s 47th National Day, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi held a day of celebration, attended by members of the administrative and academic divisions and student body. The occasion included a number of interactive activities reflecting Emirati heritage, on a day that celebrates the spirit of the union.
The highlight of the event was a collective exhibition featuring over 100 artworks produced by 47 different artists to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE. As an introduction to the exhibition, Mohamed Al Otaiba, a student of Bachelor in Applied Foreign Language recited ‘A tribute to Sheikh Zayed’ poem. The event also included many activities that represent the UAE's rich culture, such as local arts, handicrafts, silver thread work and weaving, as well as calligraphy, henna and a local fashion show.
Dr. Fatima Al Shamsi, Deputy Executive Director at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, said: “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our wise leadership, the people of the UAE and its residents, on the occasion of the 47th National Day, and wish continued safety and prosperity to our dear homeland.”
Dr. Fatima added: “Our University is keen to participate in the national celebrations of this special occasion, providing students with a sense of patriotism through a range of heritage activities and events. Our participation falls in line with our commitment to providing an excellent education to all students in the UAE - graduate future leaders and innovators, who are able to then carry both the history and culture of giving in the UAE, there since the establishment of the union, with them on their journey.”
