Tadweer Celebrates National Environment Day and Gulf Environment Week

Tadweer (The Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi) celebrated the National Environment Day and Gulf Environment Week by organizing workshops at a number of government entities and private and public schools, including the US Embassy, the Emirates Red Crescent, Corniche Hospital, Al Khatim School, and Al Nahda National School, to raise awareness about the importance of waste segregation at source and preserving the environment.

Khaled Al Blooshi, Public Awareness Department Head at Tadweer, said: “The National Environment day is a great opportunity to educate people about our objectives and enhance communication with the society. In line with our efforts to instill proper waste management techniques among the young community, Tadweer organized awareness workshops and lectures at schools, and a variety of activities and competitions in collaboration with government and private entities in order to foster a conscious generation that understands and applies the principles of sustainability and environmental preservation.”

The workshops were held on the occasion of 20th National Environment Day, under the theme "Sustainable Production and Consumption” in accordance with Tadweer’s short and medium-term strategy for waste and public health pest control management and Abu Dhabi Environmental Vision 2030.

Tadweer also organized an awareness campaign for the employees of the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and their children, as well as a full awareness campaign at the Emirates Red Crescent involving staff, students and participants from different entities. The participants were educated on how to collect and segregate waste with the necessary equipment such as bags, gloves and waste tongs.  One of the activities included cleaning the beach and honoring the best mockup built from recycled material. Tadweer also organized workshops, lectures, competitions and handcraft activities at Al Khatim School and Al Nahda National School.

In parallel, as part of its awareness and social responsibility efforts, Tadweer visited Corniche Hospital, one of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) facilities, and distributed informative brochures on patients and staff at the outpatient clinics area to educate them on how to protect the environment.

On the other hand, Tadweer’s branch in the Western Region held workshops at Al Shatha Kindergarten to teach students about the importance of waste segregation at source and reuse.
