Tashkeel Fall Programme Presents Critical Practice Workshops, Design Leaders, and First Solo Exhibition

After a successful summer period, Tashkeel gears up for the fall season with a calendar of workshops, exhibitions and events. Under the Design Programme, industry specialists Glithero will conduct dedicated design workshop weekends, while Wissam Shawkat presents his first solo exhibition at Tashkeel.

Workshop and Exhibition | Found, 6 – 20  October

Palestinian artist Hazem Harb will lead a 3-day practical and collaborative workshop at Tashkeel on found objects and material. The workshop takes the participants through a series of processes, used by the artist himself, from understanding the form and nature of the material to deconstructing and reconstructing objects. It culminates with an exhibition of the final pieces and preparatory work. These works will be photographed and made into limited edition prints, available for purchase on the Tashkeel website.

Exhibition | Monumental 11/11 by Wissam Shawkat, 13 November 2015 - 7 January 2016

Tashkeel is pleased to announce Shawkat’s first solo exhibition at Tashkeel and a new body of work including drawings, screen prints and canvases. This show marks a departure from Shawkat’s traditional explorations of form and rhythm, with the new works focusing on geometric abstraction and the flowing nature of Arabic calligraphy paired with visual references derived from Dadaist, Futurist and Bauhaus movements.

Workshops | September – December, 2015
The month of September presents workshops on the Introduction to Oil Painting, the exploration Pinhole Camera Photography, Reading and Discussion groups and Doll Making. October sees the launch of the Print Club, with the first series focusing on etching, followed by lino cut, screen printing and mono print. November’s focus is on Arabic Type Design with two workshops designated for beginners and advanced, in collaboration with the Khatt Foundation.

Wissam Shawkat will also lead calligraphy workshops inspired by the focus of his exhibition, as well as ones hosted by designer collective Glithero and Roanna Dods of Small is Beautiful, during weekends in October and November  as part of the Tashkeel Design Programme, coinciding with the inaugural edition of Dubai Design Week. Further details on all workshops are listed on the website, and registration is required.
