On May 21st, 2019, the Dubai Health Authority issued a circular whereby it is mandatory for all Day Surgical Centers to achieve international accreditation. The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) has been named as an approved accreditation agency.
In order to help and support day Surgery centres to comply with the new laws and regulations, the executive leadership of AAAASF will be traveling to Dubai on July 14th, 2019. The team will be headed by Thomas S. Terranova, JD MA, Executive Director, AAAASF.
Terranova has been Executive Director of AAAASF since April this year, and has previously served as a corporate attorney at Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Prior to that he served as the Interim Chief Operating Officer, Director of Accreditation, and Director of Legislative & External Relations at AAAASF. During his tenure at AAAASF, Terranova led numerous triumphs for the organization including a year-long Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) deeming review and was instrumental in continually improving AAAASF CMS Performance Measure scores. In addition to introducing many process improvements and innovations, Terranova was also able to contract with one of the largest Life Safety Code organizations world-wide setting AAAASF apart from other accrediting organizations.
While in Dubai, AAAASF leaders will be conducting centre visits, offering individual consultations, hosting an accreditation symposium, and leading surveyor training sessions. All of these events are designed to bring AAAASF’s collaborative and educational approach to Dubai, and to make accreditation a seamless and stress-free endeavour for everyone involved.
